A Smithfield Selma High student was arrested Friday after he allegedly stole several items from his teacher.
The incident happened on Thursday after the SSS teacher and coach had taken her class to the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center (SRAC). While at the SRAC, the teacher reported her backpack was stolen. The backpack was later recovered in the boy’s locker room at school but several items were missing including food and a laptop charger.
A school resource officer reviewed video surveillance footage and reportedly identified the suspect as 19 year-old Jonathan Trevon Tinsley of West Street, Selma. Tinsley was arrested Friday and charged with misdemeanor larceny for the theft of $22.50 worth of items from the backpack.
Tinsley was given a $500 bond pending an appearance in Johnston County District Court.
